Is it safe to take a trip from bangkok to s'pore by car?

It's safe as long as you use the right roads and go in Malaysia through Saturn Providence. Is it safe to take a trip from bangkok to s'pore by car?
My Dad is road trip MAD. He has a Singapore licence and driven from Singapore all the way to northern Thailand on the Burmese border and back again. His last trip was when he was about 65 (early 2007)?

He drove alone with my sporting Mum next to him, not in a convoy. (Perhaps join a motoring club/safety in numbers? His old school mates have done that at about the same age.)

Then again, he used his Bangkok registered car. In Malaysia, he claims that the Malaysian cars gave him a respectful berth instead of honking more often when he's driven a Singapore-registered car.

He's also quite tan, actively cultivates a yakuza look with a crew cut and pitch black sunglasses. I'm serious!

I agree with the answerer who says please be safe in the southern Thai provinces where there are active Islamic militants who've targeted tourist hotels and establishments in the recent past. If you're driving a foreign registered car you will call unwanted attention on yourself. Is it safe to take a trip from bangkok to s'pore by car?
Use the North South highway in Malaysia right up to BKH ( Bukit Kayu Hitam / Sadao Border ) From there you can drive on to BKK which is really far but there are many who love doing it :))

Please remember to endorse your insurance cover to cover Thailand .Alternatively you can buy insurance at the Sadao border but it wont be your normal insurance company that you buy in Singapore , If you want your own insurance company buy it in Singapore .Of course you must carry your original vehicle registration card throughout

Yes it is safe as long as you avoid the demonstrators .If you mean safe on accident maybe not as i am given to understand that you cannot take your vehicle back if there are third parties involved in a collsion and their claims not settled ( am malaysian that travels to Thailand )
Yeah, K. Bob is right. Don't go through three province especially Yala. There's Muslim terrorists bombing and shooting people. I'm serious. From KL onward, they have a new road to Singapore shouldn't take long. I went through a bus in 1982, was an old road, took me 8 hours to Jahor.
I think it's safe but I'm not sure about the 3 southernest provinces.

If you can read Thai, please see these links for your information.

It's safe - but it would be easier to take a bus to Chiang Mai and get a flight from there.
